The marathon is over!

I can't believe it. After close to one year of training, the marathon has come and gone. I finished in under 5 hours, which was my goal, but I really struggled towards the end. Now, I've signed up for the San Diego marathon in June, and plan on doing St. George again in the fall, if I can get in. I seem to have been bitten by the running bug. I'd like to get leaner and faster. We will see how it goes.

Wow, a month has gone by!

It's been a month since the last posting to the most boring blog on the net. However, the kids are now back in school, and I will probably need to start tracking my son's clothes again!

I'm still running. I've already passed the 100 mile mark for this month, and am on course to put in 145 miles for the month of August. I ran in the Spanish Fork 10k race and in the Provo Canyon half marathon. I'm excited for the marathon in October!

I look forward also to next year, when I can spend more time fishing and camping and less time running. This year, the marathon preparation has pretty much consumed all of my spare time.

I have at least been able to grow a garden this year, and learned some valuable lessons. For instance, planting 10 squash plants might have been a bit much. I must have 20 squash on the kitchen counter right now. Also, I need to plant more peas. As fast as I can grow them, my wife eats them!

Worlds most boring blog

Sheesh, it's been a month since I updated this thing. Running has been going well - I've even had some sub 9 minute miles lately. We are deep into the 18 week program at this point, and the miles are adding up. I wore out my latest pair of shoes already, and went with the Mizuno Waves this time. They are sweet! My main problem at this point is pain in my feet. Hopefully the new shoes will help.

June 23rd Update

I had to run up in Logan for two runs last week. That was a nice change.

I ran in a 10 mile race on Saturday, and went faster than I ever thought I could - for about the first 7 miles. I learned a valuable lesson about saving my energy.

Sunday I hiked over 10 miles while helping with the search for the missing Boy Scout.

I then ran Mon, Tues, and Wed., and now my right knee is shot. I guess I learned another valuable lesson about adequate rest. I hope to do at least 9 miles Friday morning.

Mid June update

After my 10 mile run on Saturday, I was down 20 pounds since the doctor visit. However, I lost 4 pounds just on the long run. That's a lot of sweat! The run went better. I switched from the camel pack with water to a smaller fanny pack with gatorade. I also used a different gel pak, .

Weight loss

From Wednesday of last week to this Wednesday, I dropped 10 pounds. I attacked the 3 miler yesterday, going faster than ever. For the short runs, I'm feeling a lot stronger.

Sunday morning catch up

I forgot to write on Tuesday, and didn't run on Wednesday due to a doctor visit. Saturday I did 13 miles, on the Provo Canyon trail, from mile marker 6 up to 12 1/2 and back. The weather was good, and I made great time up until mile 11, when I had to walk more than run to finish. I need to try some different gel paks, I think. I'm just running out of gas too soon.

Monday update

Gary and I spent the day fishing at Strawberry. When I got back, I did 3 miles around Mapleton. I did some serious uphills and downhills, and the temperature was in the 80s. It was not easy.

Star Wars and the 12 miler

First off, the new Star Wars movie was awesome! However, between it and having to run to Walmart to get Braden some things for his campout today, I wasn't in bed until midnight. When the alarm went off at 5:30 am, it was tough getting up to run.

I loaded up on carbs last night, and had a marathon bar and some gatorade before I started. I took one gel pak at mile 6. I finished strong, and was right around my marathon pace, so it was a good run, despite the limited sleep time.

Changing to running info

Ok, so I achieved victory with the Braden t-shirt idea. Now, onto more important things!

We (Gary, Terry and I) started running back in October. We are entered in the St. George marathon, and are training for it now, along with Ryan and Jason. I'm going to track some general running info here from now on.

Today's run was a 15 minute out and back, from the Novell campus out towards the lake. We pushed it hard, and made it out further than ever before on the out part, and still got back faster on the back part.

We ran at noon, in about 70 degree clear weather. We did have some fruit before the run.

Victory!

Ah, how sweet it is. Yet another shirt I haven't seen in ages for today. Sort of red, white and blue Hilfigger shirt.

TGIF

Blue plaid shirt, over a white t-shirt. That makes two weeks of school with no repeats!

A shirt with buttons!

It's Thursday, and he finally has on a shirt with an actual collar and buttons! Sort of a red plaid looking one. He's not too happy about it, but does admit he looks good!

Wednesday Update

Yesterday was a grey turtle neck with a red and blue stripe.

Today, he tried to pull a duplicate on me. boy! I had to send him back down to get one of the nicer shirts he owns. It's a brand new, blue polo shirt. He'll look great with his new haircut and new shirt.

Starting another week

It's Monday. Of all the luck, Braden's Grandma bought him a t-shirt, so he's wearing that one today. She's awesome, and she doesn't know about my shirt project, so no problems there! It's a black t-shirt, with a cartoon on it.

Saturday update

I forgot to make yesterdays entry. Braden, Jason and I were at my work for take your kids to work day (sons). Then Braden left for a scout campout. Anyway, yesterday's shirt was still a t-shirt, although it was a nicer looking one. I can't remember what it said, only that is was orange.

Kids at Bear Lake. Posted by Hello

Braden's Wardrobe

I'm tired of nagging my 12 year old son about wearing something besides the same t-shirts, day after day. To prove my point, I'm going to track his selection here for a few weeks.

April 25, 2005 Monday - Spanish Fork football t-shirt, black shorts

April 26, 2005 Tuesday - Sportsmen's Wearhouse blue t-shirt, blue jean shorts
